Art and culture are inseparable. Educators may ask whether and how art contribute to learning. Art is the foundation to all learning as it is known that, no school subject exists without the arts, be it science or technology. However, understanding the meaning of art concept and its value will contribute to effective teaching and learning. This paper attempts to survey the meaning and value art education. It also reviews the challenges of art as held and postulated by various concerned persons in the like of Akolo, Onuchukwu, Mamza and others using eighty subjects from the Kwara state College of Education, Ilorin with findings which are seen to be strongly interrelated. The approach adopted for this study is descriptive method. This paper concludes by emphasizing the need for an art curriculum that will put into consideration the nation’s perception that will expand opportunities to explore her abilities to cope with the global changing technological and industrial world. | A Publication of National Gallery of Art, Nigeria.
