1 | Use of Application Software in Visual Art Classroom Instruction: Emerging Challenges. |
The quality and competence of teacher’s education has become an issue of political debate due to the level of competence teaching required as a theory and practice oriented field of enquiry. This study examines the use of application software, specifically, graphics design packages by lecturers in three (3) selected tertiary institutions in Lagos Metropolis. University, polytechnic and Colleges of Education. The purposes of this study is to examine the extent of the usage of application design software in classroom and studio instruction to enhance effective teaching in the 21st century. The study made use of questionnaires and interview in its methodological approach. The findings of this study reveals that two out of the three institutions have workable computer system without relevant needed software. One of these institutions operates an older version of graphic design application software. It was discovered that the challenges facing lecturers in use of application software for design includes lack of acquaintance, inaccessibility and lack of needed skills. The paper concludes that, it is very important for lectures to be sensitized and informed in order to integrate new technologies in their field of specialization to sustain worthwhile education.
