1	TRADITIONAL EDUCATION IN SELECTED RIVALROUS SONGS AMONG YORÙBÁ CO-WIVES	Abstract The Yorùbá-ethnic group of Southwestern Nigeria is a typical example of people who polygamy has become an integral part of their social lives. In fact, desspite the encroachment of western civilizations into their culture, polygamy appears to have demonstrated a high degree of rigidity among Yoruba people. Among the Yorùbá, men marry many wives to have many children as a show of status. Meanwhile, competition of co-wivies of the same husband, often called (orogún) is rife. At times, these competition lead to violence, while violence is the main reason for generating rivalry songs rendered by the co-wives. This paper studies these rivalry songs with special focus on their educational values as a way of teaching good characters, particularly to other women. The study revealed that every woman should not only satisfy her husband with domestic responsibilities, behavioural patterns, sexual satisfaction, but also be careful with her matrimonial home, ready for matrimonial challenges, avoid uncontrollable stubbornness, display a genuine maturity and develop a thick skin against regions of life trials.
