AN ASSESSMENT OF THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF AFRICAN RELIGION IN THE PROMOTION OF PEACE AND UNITY IN NIGERIA
Abstract
The place of African Religion viz-a-viz Afrel in the contemporary religious terrain in Nigeria cannot be over-emphasized, especially when discussing religious harmony, peace or tolerance. The idea that Afrel is a fetish or animist religion is no longer a common venture here considering the scholastic works of people like Bolaji Idowu, Awolalu and Dopamu to mention but three. However, there is the need to articulate the contributions of Afrel in promoting peace and unity in Nigeria. Hence, historical and experiential methods are relied upon in order to articulate the essence of African Religion for the promotion of peace and unity in Nigeria.
