PERCEIVED ENTREPRENEURSHIP COMPETENCIES REQUIRED BY BUSINESS EDUCATION STUDENTS IN ESTABLISHING SMALL SCALE VENTURE IN KWARA STATE

The study investigates perceived entrepreneurship competencies required by business education students in establishing smail-scale ventures in Kwara State. Three research questions and three null hypotheses guide the conduct of the study. Descriptive survey research design was used for the study. A total of '205 comprising 39-business education lecturers and 166 entrepreneurs in llorin metropolis made up the population for the study. A questionnaire with Cranach reliability of 0.86 was the instrument used for data collection. Mean and standard deviation was used to analyze the research questions while t-test was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The result of the data collected and analyzed indicated that business education lecturers and entrepreneurs have positive perception toward the skills required by business education student in establishing small-scale venture. The result of the test of the null hypothesis showed significant difference in the mean rating of respondents. It was concluded that entrepreneurial skills are highly required for establishing small-scale ventures. It was recommended among others that there is the need for undergraduates in business education programme aid even graduates from the programme to strive toward skill acquisition because success and progress in the world of work and becoming self-employed, self-reliant is dependent on the amount of skills and abilities possessed.
