1 | FICTIONING IN CYBERSPACE: IDEOLOGY AND ARTISTRY IN LOLA OPATAYO'S THE ATTENDANT AND THE FAMILY |
Twenty first Century African writers' use of Information Technology as medium for transmitting literary productions is pushing the frontiers of access to the continent’s literary works. Electronic novels or E-novels are new forms for literary expression when compared to the book form which earlier generations of African writers used. In spite of the possibilities of this revolutionary form to address some challenges of book publishing and circulation in Africa, there is the need to examine these literary productions in terms of artistry and ideological positioning. This examination is imperative as such compositions, in some way, constitute a part of Africa's contributions to world literature. Therefore, this paper seeks to investigate, through textual analyses, the artistic value and ideological positioning of Lola Opatayo's The Attendant (2016) and The Family (2016). This study concludes that as information technology is boosting access to literary productions it is equally increasing African writers' ownership of agency with which to push ideologies that are relevant to them socially, economically and environmentally.
