1 | Agitations for justice in Saro-Wiwa’s a month and a day |
Among the agitations of minority societies in global politics are issues of economic and political marginalization, human rights abuse, and other injustices. This study attempts an explication of the search for justice in the auto-biography of Ken Saro-Wiwa. A Month and a Day highlights concerns associated with crude oil exploration, land grab, despoliation of the environment, and denial of basic rights of the people of the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. The study employs historical criticism to analyze the depictions of abuse in the selected work, and to also provide a frame for understanding the issues surrounding the complexities of Nigeria’s Niger Delta region. It concludes that auto-biographic writings present vistas into the thoughts of the protagonist and in this case, affords insight to the challenges of injustice recorded in that region.
