CHILD INITIATED PLAY AND RESILENCE SKILL OF CONFIDENCE IN CHILDREN OF MEDINA/GAA OSIBI COMMUNITY

This study investigated the influence of child initiated play on resilience skill of children in Medinna/Gaa Osibi Community. The approach adopted for the study was a mixed methods approach. The embedded experimental design was adopted . The qualitative data collection adopted the phenomenological approach it was done using observational technique, field notes and audio visual materials. On the other hand, quantitative data collection adopted one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample for the study comprised twenty (20) children of age 5years and above. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics of frequency count, percentage, mean, standard deviation and inferential statistics of paired samples T-test while quantitative data. While qualitative data was analysed using thematic techniques. Quantitative findings show that the extent to which child-initiated play fostered the resilience skill of confidence (wieghted) average = 3.01 in children of Medina/Gaa-Osibi Community of Ilorin West Local Government Area was high. Further finding showed that the level of resilience skill of confidence skill displayed by children before and after their participation in child-initiated play is significantly different(confindence skill (df = 19; t = -18.207; p<0.05). Hence, the null hypothesis was rejected. The study recommended that Parents,school administrator, teacher and community member in Medina/Gaa Osibi should support and encourage their children whenever they are set to engage in child-initiated play.
