The study examined the effect of improvised instructional materials on pupils’ academic performance in mathematics in Ilorin south local government area of Kwara state. The study adopted a pre-test, post-test control group quasi-experimental research design. All primary one pupils both in the two private and public schools in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State were selected to participate in the study simple random sampling technique was use to select the sample. The research instrument titled Pupils Mathematics Achievement Test (PMT) was used for data collection. The reliability index of PMT(r = 0.86) was determined using Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). Seven research hypotheses were formulated and tested in the cause of the study at 0.05 level of significance with inferential statistics of Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). The findings of the study revealed that there was significant effect on pupils’ academics performance that are taught using improvised instructional materials in mathematics. However, gender did not have significant effect on pupils’ academic performance in mathematics, while school types have a significant effect on pupils’ academic performance in mathematics. Based on the findings in the study, recommendations were made.
