1 | Social mediation in Denja Abdullahi’s Mairogo |
Contemporary African writers have over time responded to issues affecting the society, depicting and criticising the challenges facing the people. This paper examines Denja Abdullahi’s style of using a miscreant as a metaphor to comment on the challenges of modern society in his dramatic poem – Mairogo: A Buffoon’s poetic Journey around Northern Nigeria. It posits that as contemporary African poets continue to show commitment to socio-political and economic emancipation of the masses and the development of their societies, ingenious styles continue to emerge as they seek alternative ways of bringing messages of social redemption closer to the people.
