Patent Epoxy Hybrid Particulate Nanocomposite for Automobile Bumper Applications; Nigeria Patent, NG/P/2019/000100

This invention represents a deliberate attempt at producing sedan vehicle components from convertible disused materials. The invention is an epoxy hybrid particulate nanocomposite developed from epoxy resin/hardener (MAX 1618A/B), 4% aluminium, 6% coconut shell nanoparticles and ethanol through insitu polymerisation, compo cast and forge techniques. Laboratory based experimentation leading to Proof of Concept reveals that the invention has a density of 1.06 gcm-3; tensile strength, 43.2 Nmm-2; flexural strength, 193.43 Nmm-2; impact energy, 14.52 J and hardness, 12.03 HV. These property values in relation to property band for materials indicate that the invention is a light, tough, strong and less hard material. These values are within standard specifications for sedan automobile bumper application indicating that the developed nanocomposite is ideal for automobile bumper application.
