The study was carried out to examine the profit level of Cassava farming in Osun State. Primary data were collected with the aid of structured interview schedule using a multi-stage sampling procedure, 120 cassava farmers were selected for the study. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics, budgetary and regression analysis.The total average variable cost of production is ₦182445.2, gross margin realized from cassava farming was ₦347,753.00 and the net income was ₦335,253and return on naira of 1.7, which indicated that cassava was very profitable in the study area. The study also showed that there was positive relationship between gross margin and costs of fertilizer, herbicide, cassava stem, labour, and manure. The result of regression analysis showed that average cost of cassava stem, manure, and herbicide were found to be significant at 1% and 5% respectively. The major constraints in the study area were inadequate capital to promote cassava production while the issue of pest and disease was the minor one recorded in the order of severity in the study area. The study recommended that credit facilities should be made available and accessible by government and agricultural banks to support cassava farmers and Government should provide good and accessible road to enable farmers move their cassava produce to the market. | www.ijamt.com.ng |
