Application of Voice Biometrics as an Ecological and Inexpensive Method of Authentication

Biometric verification is an authentication technique through which individuals can be uniquely identified by evaluating one or more distinguishing biological traits in them. In this paper, we describe a system that uses voice recognition as a biometric method for data and information security and identity verification. Each user first chooses a password, records his/her voice and loads such voice during enrollment. To establish their identity, the user enters the password that was used during enrollment and the system asks the user to record a new voice. If the password exits in the database, the system compares the newly recorded user voice with the voice template that was already stored in the database during enrollment. Access to the restricted area is granted if the user’s voice verification is authentic. This verification method is called “one-to-one” matching and it provides a verification check that helps protect against the theft of information. In this paper, we observed that voice biometric is fairly inexpensive and non-intrusive but with a low performance in a noisy environments.
