The impact of small and medium scale enterprises in any nation cannot be over emphasized, as no nation can move economically forward without them. A developing country like Nigeria must encourage the development and growth of small and medium scale enterprises for the survival of her economy. However this paper looked into what small and medium scale enterprises constitute, ways of raising capita! for the survival of small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs), the past and current efforts by the Federal Government of Nigeria at the development and growth of SMEs, the prospects and problems of SMEs in Nigeria. Finally, suggestions and recommendations were made for the development and survival of small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria. This is important because of their roles in national development and for solving unemployment problem which actually is affecting the Nigerian citizens. | DR.
