EFFECT OF INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS ON THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF STUDENTS WITH MATHEMATICS DIFFICULTIES IN MORO LOCALGOVERNMENT AREA, KWARA

This study investigated the effect of instructional materials on the academic performance of students with Mathematics difficulties in Moro Local Government area. Ilorin Kwara State. The study adopted a pre test, post test quasi experimental research design with 2 x 1 'factorial matrix. The participants were forty (40) Senior Secondary School students with Mathematics difficulties which were purposively selected Two research instruments were used for data collection, Pupil rating Scale (r 0 90) Mathematics achievement Test (0.82). Three (3) Hypotheses were raised and tested at 0.05 significant level. Data gathered were analyzed using analysis of variant (ANOVA) and T-test. The study showed that there was a significant main effect of treatment on academic performance of students with mathematics difficulties in mathematics("F(1,38) =8.219, p<0.05,n2= 0,182) The study revealed that there was significant difference between academic performance of students with mathematics difficulties taught with instructional' Materials and those taught without instructional materials (teal = 9.71, p< 0.05) but there was no significant difference between academic performance of male and female students with mathematics difficulties taught with instructional materials (cal = 0.11. p<0.05). The researcher therefore concluded that the use of instructional materials enhanced the academic performance of student with Mathematics difficulties: Hence, the study recommended that Mathematics teachers should make use of instructional materials, while teaching Mathematics to students with mathematics difficulties, and stakeholders should make instructional materials available in school for Mathematics teachers.
